Workshop Norms
Workshop Norms
- Honesty
- Kindness
- Desire to help one another become the best we can be.
- Open-mindedness, willing to break habits.
- Positive attitude.
- Let's share lots of poems
- Let's critique rather heavily and honestly but not meanly
- I want to be inspired to do lots of writing
- Silence cell phones
- Be respectful of others, thoughts, opinions, feelings, etc.
- Feel free to ask questions if a line does not make sense
- Listen with appreciation
- No cigarettes
- Would love to know what they "hear" in it, what the poem means to the reader as the beginning point of their/our constructive criticism
- No heavy scents or perfumes
- Cell phones on vibrate or meeting, unless circumstances dictate otherwise
- No liquids or sticky things near the machines
- No ad-hominem attacks
- Balanced criticism, positive comments first, then crits
- Specific crits, instead of "I like it/I don't like it"--locate the comment, "what specifically do you like/not like?"
- Always okay to just duck out and follow the poem.
